Margie Stalls of Tarboro, N.C., passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
She was born Margie Allison Burnette Nov. 26, 1932 near Speed, N.C., the third of 11 children of the late Beatrice and Franklin Burnette. She graduated from Tarboro High School, and married Linwood D. Stalls Sr. (predeceased). She lived most of her life in Suffolk and Portsmouth, Va., residing in Tarboro the past 11 years.
Margie is also predeceased by a sister, Rosemary; and four brothers, Franklin “Junior” and wife, Mavis, Garland, Arthur and Billy; and by son-in-law, Donald Withers.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Stalls Withers (David Moorhead) of Pawley’s Island, S.C.; and a son, Linwood D. Stalls Jr., (Renee) of Jacksonville, N.C.; grandchildren, include Damian Stalls (Michelle), Justin Weimer (Robyn), and Annalise Stalls; great-grandchildren, are Desiree Wiley, Theresa Stalls (Remy Goo), Jenna Weimer, and Jocelyn Weimer; and great-grandson, Ayden Wiley. Margie is survived by sisters, Bea Burnette and Arena Webb (Bruce) Webb, all of Tarboro; brothers, Woody Burnette (Pam) of Raleigh, Earl Burnette and Kenneth Burnette both of Chicago.
Margie started at Carolina Telephone & Telegraph in Tarboro. She retired from Norshipco in Norfolk after 33 years of service. She was a member of Driver United Methodist Church in Suffolk. She was a member of the Boogie On The Beach Shag Club, Portsmouth Pardners Square Dance, The National Carousels of Virginia Beach, and a lifetime member of Women Of The Moose #966 in Portsmouth.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro. A reception to follow. Interment at Albert Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, Va., at a date to be announced later.
